I was devastated when I saw the COBKA newsletter about the passing of Naomi Price.
Thirteen years ago, Naomi was taking my OSU Master Beekeeping class. She was such a pleasure to have in my class.
On Cinco de Mayo of 2012, the class was out at my apiary where we were learning how to open and examine a hive. I happened to get stung a couple of times, which has always been no big deal. However, this time it was. I went into anaphylactic shock and passed out.
Naomi stepped in to make me comfortable and called 911. Our location was not easy to find, but she assisted with directing the fire department to our site. I had no idea any of this was going on, as I was unconscious.
On the way to the hospital, EMS had to give me a shot of epinephrine to revive me—but it was too much of a jolt for my heart, and I went into cardiac arrest. This event uncovered a significant blockage in my artery, which was later taken care of with stents.
If not for Naomi keeping a level head and doing all that she did, I don’t think I’d be here sharing this heroic story with you.
Thank you for giving me life, Naomi.
All of my love, and may you rest in peace.
See you in another apiary.
