I am numb and unable to process the loss of such an amazing person right now. Her wisdom, her wit, her support to our community will be missed sorely. She had the most incredible laugh, that always made me smile.
At one of the very first bee club meetings I attended years ago, I asked if there was anyone in Central Oregon who could mentor me, someone who wanted to keep bees in Warre hives vs. the traditional Langstroth hive. The answer was no, no one. After the meeting Naomi wheeled up to me and said, "I will." And so, our relationship began. Because you see, she taught me that it does not matter a wit what box or contrivance you put your bees in. You must first and foremost understand our bees, their biology, their habits, wants and needs if you want to successfully keep them, no matter what home you put them in.
She taught that lesson to me and hundreds of us over the years and for that we should be eternally grateful.
